The unfortunate part of writing is when you have no platform. People who are famous for whatever reason have an automatic platform. They also get nice advances. Unless some publisher is convinced you wrote a soon to be best seller, it's likely you won't even get an advance, but that depends on the publisher. On top of that, you will have to work your butt off to establish a platform.
I am only in the beginnings of making a platform. Lot of work ahead.
I think the concept of a platform is harder if you are a fiction writer. For non-fiction, your platform can be the expertise in the subject matter you're writing about. With fiction, it can be fame, like you suggest. But maybe you're already doing that with your blog. Maybe you already have more of a platform than you know!
